Cartha Calhoun

Cartha M. Calhoun daughter of Kenneth and Pearl Dalton died at age 73. She spent the last 8 years at Plaza West Nursing Home, She had alzheimer's. She was born June 18, 1931 at Arcadia, KS, She graduated from High School at Wichita, KS East High in May 1950 She married James T. Calhoun, Nov. 11, 1950. They spent many years at Goddard, KS where their three sons were born. In 1968 they moved to Topeka, KS. Cartha worked for the 501 School District preparing school lunches. She also did child care work as well as a housewife. She is survived by her Husband James T. Calhoun, three sons and their wives, Dwight A. Calhoun, Wife Rhonda, Douglas W. Calhoun, wife Amy and Curtis Calhoun, all of Topeka, six grandchildren. A sister Melba J. Upton-Turnbow of Irving, TX, plus one nephew and 2 nieces also survive. Cartha was a member of the North Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses, Topeka, KS. A funeral service will be at 1:00 p.m., Monday, Jan. 3, 2005 at Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel in North Topeka. Interment will be in Penwell-Gabel's Memorial Park Cemetery. Mrs. Calhoun will lie in state after 1:00 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 2, 2005 at Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel where the family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Messages to the family may be left at www.penwellgabel.com.
