Carol Spence, 87, of Topeka passed away on Thursday, May 4, 2023. She was born December 18, 1937, the daughter of Walter L. and Ruth M. Anthony at Easton, Kansas. She was a hard worker. At one time Carol owned a café, managed a hotel and worked in Lawrence all at the same time. She and her husband owned a grocery store and café at Delphos, Kansas. She managed the hotel which later became the St. Gregory Apartments, in downtown Topeka, managed the Holiday Inn locally and owned Carol’s Coffee Time on the highway out by Grantville. Most recently she worked at the Prairie Band Casino at Mayetta. She was very caring, loved her grandkids and enjoyed traveling. Carol liked to try out new churches all the time and to cook. Pie was a favorite. Carol did her own yardwork and kept a fastidious house.
She is survived by her children, Jimmy Roberts, Jr., of Topeka, Gary W. Roberts and wife Sheila of Topeka, Hazel Barngrover and husband Bud of Topeka and Ruth Roberts of Topeka; four sisters, Edna Cloud of Leavenworth, Evelyn Guidry of Atchison, Mary Golubski and husband Larry of Sarasota, FL and Nancy Davis of Elwood, Kansas; one son, Edward “Butch” Woodward and wife Peggy of Bonner Springs, KS; grandchildren, Misty, J.B., Carrie, Eva, Christy, Deseara, Breann, Nesha, J.J.; 30 great grandchildren several great great grandkids; many nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by a sister Patricia Garnett of Lansing, Kansas.
