Carol L. Paxton, 85, of Topeka, passed away on March 6, 2021 at Midland Care.

She was born on January 1, 1936 to Mark and Hulda (Johnston) Evans at Osage City, KS.

On April 22, 1956, Carol married Charlie Paxton in Osage City. He precedes her in death.


Carol was a homemaker while her children were home. She later went to work for the Kansas Insurance Department as a customer service representative, where she later retired.

She loved her family and spoiling her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was an avid KU Jayhawk fan, and loved to support her children and grandchildren in all of their sporting events, plays, and concerts. You could always find her in the stands cheering loudly for them. Carol was an amazing cook. She was also a seamstress and made all of her children's clothes in their younger years.

She and her husband enjoyed traveling all over the world together. New York, Florida, and California were a few of their favorite destinations. Living out their passion of traveling together was a true blessing. She also shared Charlie's love of live music and dancing. Their first date was at the Starlight theater, and shortly after, were in the audience to hear Elvis sing. They continued attending concerts and dances throughout their life.

Carol was a member of Second Presbyterian Church in Topeka.
She was a regular at the north YMCA for water aerobics and yoga. She enjoyed staying active and fit. Carol also volunteered for many community organizations throughout her life, her favorite being the reading to children through USD 501s literacy program.

Carol is survived by children, Brenda (Mark) Gomez, Lori Puterbaugh, and Jeff (Jodi) Paxton; Grandchildren, Cole (Allie) Smart, Hunter Smart, Jesse Paxton, and Jenna (Ryan) Flaherty; great-grandchildren, Claire, Emily, Bo, and Shea.

She was preceded in death by her husband Charlie; both parents; and sisters, Ruth Fleischer, Margaret Strait, Mary Lou McCoy, Jane Goheen, and Lois Evans.

Celebration of Life will take place on Saturday, May 29, 2021 at Second Presbyterian Church at 11:00am
