Carol Joyce Roach
Carol Joyce (Zeller) Roach passed away on January 11, 2011 in Topeka, Kansas, at the age of 74. Carol was born in Barnes, Kansas on November 1, 1936, and was the daughter of Harold J. Zeller, and Edna Tewes Zeller. Carol and her family moved to Topeka, where she attended Randolph Grade School, Boswell Junior High, and Topeka High School, class of 1954. She graduated from Washburn University in 1959 with a degree in elementary education. She was a member of Zeta Tau Alpha sorority and served as President in 1957.
She taught at Crestview and Parkdale Grade Schools in Topeka and later at New York School in Lawrence. When Nick and Carol moved to Overland Park, in 1968, Carol began an administrative career in real estate, serving as a closing officer in Johnson County, and when they moved back to Topeka in 1982, she was the closing officer for Kansas Secured Title, a position she held until they moved to South Florida in 1992. She was a closing officer at Gold Coast Title in South Florida. In 1994 Carol and Nick moved to Springfield, Missouri, and Carol was a closing officer with Fidelity Title until retirement in 2003 when Nick and Carol returned to Topeka and enjoyed their retirement. Carol worked during the Legislative Sessions as a file clerk through the 2010 session. Carol was an avid golfer, playing as often as possible, last playing in mid-October of this past year.
Always active in the support of her children, Carol served as the scorekeeper, and the on-the-road mom for the girls on the teams, as they traveled around the country, playing fast pitch softball. Additionally, Carol served as the Bethel Guardian of Job's Daughters Bethel #1, in Topeka. Carol was a member of this Bethel as a child. She was an important source of guidance to the Shrine ladies as they progressed through the Shrine Divan. Carol served as the Treasurer's Lady for five years.
Carol was pre-deceased by her parents, Hank and Edna Zeller, and her sister, Sandy Quick, who passed away on September 1, 2010. Carol is survived by her husband of 52 years, Nick, and their daughters Cindy Roach, Colleen (Joe) Gadwood, and Connie Roach; her grandchildren Tyler Gadwood, and Bailey Gadwood, all of Johnson County, Kansas; her brother-in-law, Bill Quick, Gilbert, Arizona, and Nick's sisters, Mary Ellen Mayberry, and Kathleen (John) Lake, both of Ohio; and many nephews, nieces, and cousins.

There will be a visitation at First Lutheran Church, 1234 SW Fairlawn Road, Topeka, on Sunday, January 16 from 5:00-7:00 pm. A memorial service will be held at First Lutheran on Monday, January 17th at 11:00 am. A private inurnment will be held at a later date at Penwell-Gabel Cemetery, 3616 SW Sixth Avenue, Topeka.
