Carl Dean Smith, 88, Topeka, formerly of Silver Lake, joined his wife of 63 years on Friday, November 2, 2018, shortly after her passing on August 11, 2018.
He was born June 22, 1930 in Lyndon, Kansas, the son of Carl F. and Hattie (Eklund) Smith. He graduated from Osage High School. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran serving during the Korean Conflict.
Carl was a tire builder at GoodYear Tire & Rubber Company for 40 years, retiring in 1991.
He attended Silver Lake United Methodist Church. Carl was an avid woodworker, making beautiful furniture and clocks for his family.
On December 24, 1954, he married Mary Ann Scott in Palestine, Texas. She preceded him in death on August 11, 2018.
He was preceded in death by four siblings, Kenneth, Ruth, Eunice and Helen.
Survivors include his children: Carl E. Smith, Lees Summit, MO; Bob (Renee) Smith, Topeka; Debbie (Kenneth) Whiteaker, Topeka; Judy (Tom) Sextro, Holton and Susan (Pat) Northrip, Plano, TX; 16 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 10 am, Saturday, November 10, 2018 at Parker-Price Cremations, Funerals & Receptions, 245 NW Independence Ave, Topeka. Burial will follow at Prairie Home Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday from 6 pm until 7pm at the funeral home.
