Carl Alfred Johnson, 92, passed away Sunday, September 3, 2017, in Overland Park, KS.
Carl was born March 23, 1925, in Topeka, KS, to Frank and Alice (Robinson) Johnson. He graduated from Seaman High School and later joined the US Navy as a Seabee crane operator serving in the South Pacific during World War II. After returning home, he married his high school sweetheart, Doris Jean Cook on June 8, 1946. They had two children and built their home which they spent 65 years in together.
He retired from Kansas Gas Service after 30 years. Carl and Doris spent many wonderful years traveling the country teaching international ballroom dancing. He enjoyed playing golf, hunting, and waterskiing.
Carl is survived by his wife of 72 years; daughter, Vickie (Walter) Willett of Leawood; six grandchildren, Billy Johnson, Pete Williams, Michelle (Brian) Duncan, Jason Willett, Justin (Emily) Willett, and Joshua Willett; and five great-grandchildren, Christopher and Dylan Duncan, Jaiana and Zachary Johnson, and Olivia Rose and Sydney Victoria Willett.
Carl was preceded in death by his son, Duane Lee Johnson; and two sisters, Marian Horten and Eleanor Lyon.
A memorial service will be at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 6, 2017, at Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, 245 NW Independence Ave, Topeka. Inurnment will be at a later date at Rochester Cemetery, Topeka. The family will receive friends following the service at the funeral home.
