Carl Henry Anschutz, 81, of Topeka, passed away Sunday, August 3, 2014.
He was born May 11, 1933, at home in Russell County, near Wilson, KS, the son of William Frederick and Hedwig "Hattie" (Schepmann) Anschutz. He attended Lutheran School in Holyrood and Cliff Country School in Wilson, KS. He served in U.S. Army during Korean War.
Carl was a Kansas Licensed Land Surveyor for the State of Kansas for 39 years before retiring in September 1993.
Mr. Anschutz was a member of the St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, of Topeka.
Carl married Deloris "Jean" Segenhagen on June 2, 1957 in St. John's Lutheran Church, Topeka, KS. She survives. Other survivors include a daughter, Michelle Anschutz, Horton, KS; a son, Brian (Shelly) Anschutz, Topeka; three grandchildren, Michael, Amanda and Nathaniel Anschutz; six siblings, Glenn (Margaret) Anschutz, Topeka, Leona (Herbert) Mutschler, Gypsum, KS, Dale (Mabel) Anschutz, Ellsworth, KS, Wilmetta "Billie" (Paul) McDonald, Topeka, Leora "Lee" True, Westphalia, KS and Maydene "Betty" (Louis Paul) Meyer, Leroy, KS; a brother-in-law, Jerry (Karla) Segenhagen, Holton, KS; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Vera Lehmann, and three brothers, Kenneth, John and Wilbur Anschutz.
Carl enjoyed working with his hands and could build anything. He liked to study Civil War history and extreme Sudoku games.
A funeral service will be 10:30 a.m., Saturday, August 9, 2014 at the Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, 245 NW Independence Ave, Topeka. Interment with military honors will follow at the Penwell-Gabel Cemetery, Topeka. Carl will lie in state after 3 p.m., Friday, where the family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Lutheran Hour Ministries, 660 Mason Ridge Center, St. Louis, MO 63141 or to Helping Hands Humane Society, 5720 SW 21st Street Topeka, KS 66604.
