Carl V. Fritz, 87, of Grantville passed away on Saturday, September 23, 2017 at his home at Grantville. He was born August 14, 1930 at Lindsborg, Kansas the son of Carl and Anna Danielson Fritz. He attended Topeka High School. After graduation he joined the United States Air Force, serving as a tail gunner on B-29’s and as a boom operator on KC-95’s.
On December 26, 1950 he was married to Edith R. Packer. Edith passed away on March 17, 1996.
After the service, Carl returned to Topeka and began a long career at Goodyear. After retiring at age 52 so could work full time at his part-time job he had for years at Jayhawk Aviation. He was a flight instructor and a charter pilot. At the time Carl finally quit flying, he accumulated over 20, 000 hours of flight time.
Carl loved the Lord, the land, flying and his family.
He was a member of the North Topeka Baptist Church, Post #400 of the American Legion, member of the Local Rubber Workers Union and Aircraft Owners and Pilot Association.
Survivors include his sons, Doug Fritz and wife Kathy of Topeka, Terry Fritz of Topeka; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Along with his wife, Carl was preceded in death by his parents, two children, Virgil and Carla and his four sisters, Eunice, Hazel, Gladys and Helen.
Funeral services will be held at Davidson Funeral Home 1035 N. Kansas Ave., on Thursday, September 28 at 10:00 am. Interment will follow at the Grantville Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-7 pm on Wednesday evening at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to North Topeka Baptist Church.
