OBITUARY: Carl D. Edes, Jr.
Carl Dossen Edes, Jr., of Berryton, passed over to be with his Lord, Mon., July 4, 2011, at Midland Hospice House of Topeka. He was born Nov. 2, 1939, in Amarillo, TX, the son of Carl D. and Mattie (Davis) Edes, Sr. He graduated from Amarillo High School in 1958, and started his career with the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railroad in 1960. He also maintained a successful roofing and fencing business in his off-time. He was transferred by the railroad to Topeka in 1986, then Chicago in 1990, where he retired in 1991, and returned to Topeka to marry his wife, Judith Anne Ream Edes, on Sept. 12, 1992. Carl was a member of Siloam Lodge # 225, AF & AM, Topeka Scottish Rite Bodies, and the ARAB Shrine and its Antique Unit. He totally enjoyed driving his 1971 1-ton Chevy truck in various parades hitting his ooga-horn and air horn and watching the kids laugh and wave. When Carl and Judy married, they successfully joined two families together. His survivors are his wife, son Randy (Lisa) Edes of Berryton, daughter Lisa (Bobby) Anderson of Texas, step-daughters Sara (Troy) Abel and Brenda (Matt) Jessop of Topeka, and grandchildren Meagan Anderson of Texas, Hannah Abel and Zachary and Quinten Jessop of Topeka, and step-grandchildren Kimberly and Michael Duncan of Berryton. He is also survived by a brother Melvin (Kathy) Edes of Amarillo, TX, a sister Gayle Edes of Clarendon, TX, cousins, nieces and nephews. Carl was preceded in death by his parents and younger brother, Herbert Dayle Edes, of Texas. Funeral services will be at 10:00 AM, Fri., July 8, 2011, at Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel 245 NW Independence Ave., Topeka, followed by Masonic services conducted by Siloam Lodge # 225, AF & AM. Interment in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Richland. Carl will lie in state after 3:00 PM, Thurs., at the funeral chapel where the family will receive friends from 7:00 to 8:30 PM. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Shriners' Childrens Hospital Travel Fund c/o ARAB Shrine, 1305 S.
