Cameron LeRoy Mickey, 83, Topeka, died Mon., May 28, 2012, at Midland Hospice House.
He was born Dec. 15, 1928, Wakefield, the son of Chester A. and Clara E. (Furrer) Mickey. He graduated from Wilsey High School and attended Emporia State Teachers College. Cameron served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict.
He worked at Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. for over 38 years before retiring. He was a member of Second Presbyterian Church, Golden Rule Lodge # 90, A.F. & A.M. (Past Master), Arab Shrine, Arab Shrine Escorts, Topeka North Post 400 of the American Legion, and V.F.W. Post # 10185 (Meriden).
Cameron was married to Deloris Ruby Say on April 11, 1953, at Wilsey. She preceded him in death on Aug. 3, 1990. He was married to Marilyn Louise Kendall Martin on Feb. 26, 1991. She survives. Surviving in addition to his wife are a daughter: Lynette Kieffer of Manhattan; 2 sons: Lyle D. Mickey of Auburn and Lynn E. Mickey (Becky) of Topeka; 2 step-daughters: Roxanne Martin (Karen Gilkey) of Lawrence and Lisa Jo Martin of Topeka; a step-son: Marvin Martin of Topeka; a sister: Bernice Dibben of Junction City; 2 brothers: John Mickey (Betty Holtzen) of Abilene and Lawrence Mickey (Janelle) of Hillsboro; 12 grandchildren, Jeremy Mickey, Jennifer Shuler, Hannah Mickey, Elizabeth Kieffer, Charles Kieffer, Josh Mabry, Jacob Mickey, Larry Wilson, Brandy Crump, Vincent Martin, Amanda Martin, Karen Minter; 12 great-grandchildren, Gage Mickey, Trenton Shuler, Patrick Shuler, Shelby Shuler, Chelsea Mickey, Madison Kieffer, Charity Wilson, Megan Crump, Broden Martin, Rayton Martin, Maleigha Minter, Makynzey Minter; a great-great-grandson,Colton Bender; sisters in law Carol Burns(Gail) of Delevan and Corene Wilson(Jim) of Athens, Georgia, and many nieces, nephews and friends.
He was also preceded in death by his parents, 5 sisters Katherine May(Zach), Opal Bowman(Ernest), Pearl Turnbull(Melvin), Barbara Lay(Donald)and MaryLou Miser(Wayne), 2 brothers Elmer Dale Mickey and Chester Mickey, Jr(Ruth).
Funeral services will be at 10:00 AM, Fri., June 1, 2012, at Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, 245 NW Independence Ave., Topeka, followed by Masonic Services conducted by Golden Rule Lodge #90, A.F. & A.M. A Fort Riley U.S. Army Detail will conduct military honors at Mount Hope Cemetery. Cameron will lie in state after 3:00 pm, Thurs., at the funeral chapel where the family will receive friends from 7:00 to 8:30 PM.
