Calvin V. Bigger

Calvin V. Bigger, 90, of Topeka passed away on Wednesday, January 23, 2019. He was born November 17, 1928 at Topeka the son of Myron and Ruth Bacon Bigger.   He attended Topeka High and joined the Navy, serving his country during World War II. He returned to Topeka. He worked for many years at Fleming Foods. Calvin was a member of Teamster Local #696.

He married Betty Rake on February 12, 1950 at the United Methodist Church parsonage at Big Springs.   He and Betty renewed their vows at the Big Springs United Methodist Church 40 years later.

Calvin was very involved in area auto racing.   He helped build Shawnee Speedway which later became Topeka Speedway, served as an official at racing there, the Kansas Fairgrounds and Lakeside Speedway in Kansas City, Kansas. He was involved in the masonic lodge, receiving his 50 year pin from the Lecompton Lodge #420 AF&AM recently. He was also a member of Media Gratiae.

Survivors include his wife Betty Bigger of Topeka; sons, Bob Bigger and wife Josie, Dale Bigger and wife Barb all of Topeka; daughter, Dorothy Bond and husband Timothy of Topeka; six grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren.
