C. Vernon George
C. Vernon George, 68, Topeka, died Sunday, Sept. 7, 2003, at St. Francis Health Center in Topeka. He was born July 11, 1935, in Freedom, Mo., to Emile H. and Alice Marie Jones George. Mr. George graduated from Everest High School the class of 1953. He worked as a tower operator for DuPont/Flexel for 35 years before retiring in 1997. He was a master wood worker. He was a member of West Side Christian Church. Mr. George was a Scoutmaster for Boy Scout Troop No. 13 and committee member of Troop 357. He was very active in his children s lives, attending all their events. He also enjoyed attending his grandchildren s activities. He was very active in many different activities in the church. He married Y. Marcene Kuck on Nov. 11, 1956, in Hiawatha. She survives. Other survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Julie and Dale Baldwin, De Soto; two sons and daughters-in-law, Herb and Tammie George, Tonganoxie, and Charley and Penny George, Atchison; 12 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; a brother-in-law, Benton and Wilma Kuck, Council Bluffs, Iowa; two sisters-in-law, June Laha, Wakefield, and Joan Kuck, Topeka; and many nieces and nephews. Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at West Side Christian Church. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Vernon George will lie in state at Parker-Price Mortuary after 3 p.m. Wednesday, where the family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to West Side Christian Property Department, 432 Lindenwood, Topeka, 66606-1348.
