Burle Ray Shelby, 83 of Topeka, passed away Saturday, December 31 st , peacefully in his sleep, at the Topeka VA Community Living Center.He was born May 24 th , 1939, in Manhattan, Kansas to Earl R. and Joy L. (Ward) Shelby. Burle graduated from Seaman High School in 1958. Burle married Shirley A. Jolley on December 10, 1959. They had two children, Tammy Haag and Scott Shelby. They shared over 54 years together until Shirley’s passing in 2014.

He was called into service (U.S. Army) in 1961 and was stationed at Fort Leonard Wood, Mo. He served duty in Fulton, Germany with the 58 th Engineers. Burle retired from Ryder Truck Rental after 36 years. He then worked for Famous Brands Distributor another 8 years.

He is preceded in death by his parents, wife Shirley, sister Earline, and granddaughter Shaye. Survivors include his twin sister Verle Brown, two children, Tammy (Jake) Hagg and Scott (Marcy) Shelby. Other survivors include his much cherished 6 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.Burle enjoyed traveling and spending time with family, going to swap meets and working on old vehicles. He was a Royals baseball, KSU football, and KC Chiefs Fan.

A Visitation will be held on Monday, January 9 th , 2023 from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. at Davidson Funeral Home, 1035 N Kansas Avenue, Topeka. Burial will take place at Rochester Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to meals on wheels.
