Buford P. McIver, Jr., 79, Topeka, died Saturday, February 26, 2005 at Rolling Hills Health Center. He was born Dec. 23, 1925 in Winfield, KS, the son of Buford P. and Opal E. Hughes McIver, Sr.
Buford graduated from Canton High School in 1943. He served in the Navy during World War II and graduated from Washburn University in 1949 with a business degree in Economics. Buford worked for Hill & Company, Inc. for almost 30 years and retired from DeBacker's Inc. in 1989. He was an active member of Second Presbyterian Church for 48 years as well as a member of Kansas Historical Society, National Railroad Historical Society, Scottish Rite, Masons and American Legion.
He married Gertrude Mae Jones in 1948 in Lebo, KS. She preceded him in death on June 15, 1998.
Buford is survived by three daughters, Kathy Blackburn, Wichita, KS; Kris Johnson, Lawrence, KS; Kelie McIver, Los Angeles, CA; two sons, Scott McIver, Ft. Worth, TX; Brian McIver, Topeka, KS; 9 grandchildren.
A funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, March 3, 2005 at Second Presbyterian Church. Interment will be in Rochester Cemetery.
Mr. McIver will lie in state after 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 2, 2005 at Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, 245 NW Independence Ave. Topeka, KS 66608, where the family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
