Bruce John Wayant passed away on March 11, 2022 after battling cancer. The first part of this obituary was written by Bruce himself, and the second by his family.
I was born on March 20, 1961 to John and Marjorie Wayant in Kansas City, MO. I grew up with two older brothers and one younger brother. My childhood was full of adventures, fishing, ice skating, homemade food (especially chocolate chip cookies!), Oklahoma State football games, and causing trouble and annoyance for my parents.
On May 27, 1984, I married the beautiful, wonderful and VERY tolerant Dawn Dow. We have two grown children, Nikki (Matt Renner) and Clay, who have given us great joy, a few headaches, and lots of great memories. I have treasured every moment spent with my family, from canoeing adventures and cutting down Christmas trees, sports and Boy Scouts to navigating Washington DC and weekly Sunday night pizza parties.
Other family members who survive me are my brothers Ron Boyer (Cindy), John Boyer (Janna), and Steve Wayant (Staci), my Father/Mother in-law Verne and Joanne Dow, brothers-in-law Kevin Dow (Laurel) and Sean Dow (Marion) and numerous nieces and nephews. Most importantly, I am also survived by the most beautiful granddaughter in the world, Rosie, who is the daughter of Nikki and Matt.
By the way, I beat my younger brother, Steve, by 29 seconds in the 2011 Marine Corp Marathon!
I want to say thank you to all who crossed my path, from students, co-workers, New Decade Sunday school classmates, Boy Scouts, especially the Old Goats Patrol, and numerous friends who overlooked my many flaws and showed me kindness. You helped make my life very enjoyable. I hope I made you smile more than I made you frown and returned some of the kindness that was to shown to me. I am very grateful.

He leaves many legacies, including a nineteen-acre self-cultivated tree farm, a home filled with furniture he designed and created, including a scarecrow named Bob, homemade and very personalized ornaments and a world that is better for him having been a part of it. Bruce and Dawn had lots of adventures including biking across the state of Missouri twice, scuba diving, repelling, hiking, triathlons and numerous running events.
