Bruce Grout, 92, Topeka, died Tuesday, April 22, 2014 at Stormont-Vail Hospital, Topeka. He was born March 25, 1922, at Almena, Kansas, the son of Phillip and Hazel Dell (Brooks) Grout.
He graduated from Almena Rural High School in 1940. Bruce was an accountant at Topeka State Hospital for 37 years before retiring. He was a member of Countryside Christian Church.
He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps for four years during World War II. He was discharged as a Staff Sergeant.
Bruce was married to Esther Leah Martin on June 20, 1948, at Nortonville.
Surviving are his wife of 65 years: Esther (Martin) Grout; a son: Brent Dee Grout (Cheri) of Brownsburg, IN; and three grandsons: Brad Grout, Jeremiah Grout, and Zach Grout, all of Brownsburg, IN.
Funeral services will be at 1:00, Saturday, April 26, 2014, at Countryside Christian Church, 3635 NW K-4 Highway, Topeka. Burial will be in Rochester Cemetery, 1200 NW Menninger Road, Topeka.
Bruce will lie in state after 3:00 PM, Friday, at Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, 245 NW Independence Avenue, where the family will receive friends from 4:00 to 8:00 PM.
Memorial contributions may be made to Ozark Christian College, 1100 North Main, Joplin, MO 64801.
