Bonnie M. Rouse

Bonnie Marie (Miller) Rouse passed away on May 5, 2022 at Meriden Kelly House.

She was born November 23, 1941 in Atchison, Kansas, the daughter of John J. and Pearl E. Miller. She lived in the Muscotah, Wetmore and Holton Communities until she graduated from Holton High School in 1959. She moved to Topeka, Kansas and attended Washburn University and Palmers Writers School.

On November 29, 1959, she married Henry L. Rouse. They were married 47 1/2 years when Henry passed away on May 9, 2007. She was also preceded in death by her parents and her brother Carl J. Miller.

Bonnie is survived by her three sons, David L. Rouse of Emmett; Dennis L. (Beckie) Rouse of Meriden, and Daniel L. (Susie) Rouse of Meriden; grandchildren, Josh Rouse, Shelby Rouse, and Cheyenne Rouse all of Topeka, Hunter Rouse and Corbin (Conor Willhoite) Rouse of Meriden; one brother, Jim Miller of Topeka; two sisters, Mary Pollock of Holton and Linda Heston of Topeka.

Bonnie was a member of the Methodist Church, Seaman Booster Club, Jefferson West High School Booster Club, American Legion Post 400 Auxiliary, secretary for the Hoyt Senior Citizens, and volunteer for the Salvation Army gift wrapping for needs of Topeka children.

While her children were at home, she was an active member and officer of the PTA, Seaman High School Advisory Council, Seaman High School Athletic and Fine Arts Booster Clubs, Cub Scout Den Mother for 8 years, Northern Hills Junior High School Sponsor of the yearbook, Spirit Squad, and student council spring and winter dances.
Bonnie worked for American Companies from 1973-1976 as a secretary, then left to work for USD #345.
Bonnie worked for the Seaman School District for 28 years and retired in 2004. She was instrumental in helping to get the Special Education programs started in the Seaman School District. Later, she became supervisor of the first Tutoring Lab in the district. This program is now state wide.

Bonnie will Lie In State on Monday, May 9, 2022 at Parker Price Funeral Home from 12:00 to 7:00 pm. Family will greet friends from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm.

Funeral service will be Tuesday, May 10, 2022 at Parker Price Funeral Home at 10:00 am. Interment will follow at West Lawn Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be donated to the 'Kansas Ballet' that will be used for scholarships for future young dancers, 5240 S.W. 17th Street, Topeka, Kansas 66604.
