Robert Allen Slater, 61, lifelong Topeka resident, was born on September 16, 1962. He was taken from this earth on July 3, 2024 after a long and courageous battle with ALS. He was a graduate of Seaman High School where he was involved in football and wrestling. He spent his formative years in scouting, fostering his love of nature and the outdoors. Robert was an avid participant of martial arts training. He also honed his love of gardening during this time. Robert would become known as “Strawberry Bob”. This name was bestowed upon him as a term of endearment from the individuals who would come to pick his signature berries.
Robert’s faith and his church family were an extremely important part of his life. He was a member of the Kansas Avenue United Methodist Church and was an integral part of their fast pitch softball league for many years.
Robert was known to be a fiercely loyal employee. He worked at Volume Shoe and transitioned to Frito Lay in 2007. He was his father’s primary caregiver during the last four years of his dad’s life. He was preceded in death by his parents Benjamin Michael Slater, Marilyn Ruth Slater and a sister, Cathy Marie Slater Martin. He is survived by three siblings: Vickie Slater Carver (Mike), Melvin Michael Slater (Mark), William Wade Slater and six nieces and nephews.
