Bobby Dean Kern

Bobby "Bob" Dean Kern (86), son of Cecil and Lottie (Hosler) Kern, passed away January 3, 2020. Bob was born February 15, 1933 in the family home in Jackson County, Kansas.
Bob graduated from Denison Rural High School in 1951 and served in the United States Army from 1953 through 1955; he was discharged as a Corporal having spent his service in Germany working in the Motor Pool, he drove a DuceNHalf personnel and cargo carrier.
He married Caroline (Matthews) Kern and had 3 children; David (Lois) Kern of Mayetta, Timothy Kern (deceased), and Adam (Diana) Kern of Meriden. Later he married Mary Hill and had 2 children, Veneva (Reg) Bailey of Topeka and Dean Kern of Denver, CO. On November 26, 1988 Bob married Betty (Hainline) Kern of Topeka, Kansas; she survives.
For 11 years, Bob worked as a Journeyman Carpenter for Local #1445. For 17 years, while he lived in Texas, he was a Master Carpenter. Upon his return to Kansas, he continued his Master Carpenter journey for another 12 years. During these collective 40 years he worked in over 28 states as well as Canada, and fished in every one of them.
Bob is proceeded in death by both his parents, son Tim, sister Thelma Whitesell, and brother Don Kern. Bob is survived by his wife Betty, sons David, Adam, and Dean, daughter Veneva, extended children Marjorie (Perry) Taylor, and Bob (Barb) Hainline. Bob is also survived by 8 grandchildren; Brandy Anderson, John Kern, Hayley LaMastus, Jeremy Kern, Tana Harmon, Garrett Wall, Lewis Kern, and Morgan Bailey; extended grandchildren Greg Taylor, Aimee Williams, Kari Baker, Kelly Northup, Kyle Hainline, and Casey Hainline. Additionally, he is survived by 9 great-grandchildren and 6 extended great-grandchildren.
The family will be welcoming guests for a visitation at the funeral home from 3:00 – 5:00pm on Sunday, January 5th. Funeral services will be held at 10:00am on Monday, January 6th at Parker-Price Chapel in North Topeka, following the funeral service Bob will be laid to rest in South Cedar Cemetery at W and 158th in Jackson County, KS.
