Billy Dean Lyden, of Topeka, went home to be with our Lord and his beloved wife, JoAnn, after 91 years on this earth. He peacefully passed on February 21, 2025, surrounded with love and family.
Billy was born June 22, 1933 in Jerico Springs, Missouri, the son of Weldon and Mabel (Jenkins) Lyden. He served aboard the USS Pollux and was Honorably Discharged in 1957. He was the owner and operator of J.A. Lyden Construction Company in Topeka, Kansas. While Billy made his living as a general contractor, he lived for his family. He was devoted to his loving wife JoAnn and his four children. He wore the titles of husband, father and grandfather with immense pride. He knew how to make his family feel loved and supported by always showing up despite hardship or distance.
Billy married JoAnn (Smith) Lyden on September 3, 1954 in Topeka, Kansas. When they met, it was love at first sight and that strength of affection never wavered in their 71 years of marriage. If the best way to lead is by example, they were exceptional leaders for their family. We all witnessed how they loved and complimented one another. We saw their shared smiles and affection when they didn’t know we were watching and it shaped us all.
Survivors include his children: Janet Shepard (Steve), Joyce Dryer (David), Bruce Lyden, Brad Lyden (Brenda); seven grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
The family will greet friends beginning at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home. Funeral Service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, March 5, 2025 at Parker-Price & Davidson, 245 NW Independence Ave., Topeka, KS 66608. Burial with military honors will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery in Topeka.
