Billy Gene Schalk, 78, of Topeka, Kansas, passed away November 24, 2020 at his home, surrounded by his loving family.
Billy was born on September 6, 1942 in Poplar Bluff, Missouri. Son of Roy and Dollie Lashley Schalk.
Billy graduated from Poplar Bluff High School in 1960.
After graduating he joined the United States Air Force in 1961, where he served for 20 years working as a mechanic. He served in Vietnam. He later retired as Master Sargent.
He met Karen Waetzig while stationed at Forbes Air Force Base. They later married in Carbondale on June 1, 1965. Together they had two children.
After retiring, he worked at Frito Lay in maintenance. He retired after 24 years of work.
He was a part of many bowling leagues and he loved to play baseball and golf. He loved to watch T.V., he was hooked on Gunsmoke, and was an avid reader. He always made sure his wife, children, and grand kids always had what they needed.
Billy is survived by his loving wife of 55 years Karen; Daughter, Patty L.(Troy Whitworth) Schalk; Son, Patrick Schalk, Brother, Charles Schalk, Grandchildren, Jordan (Dasha) Putthoff and Joelle Ahlenius; Great Grand Daughter, Scarlett Putthoff.
He loved his little Yorkie "Macy", who was by his side to the end.
He was preceded in death by his parents Roy Schalk and Dollie Schalk, and his brother, Bob Schalk.
Per Billy's wishes, cremation has taken place. To pay your respects, please visit Parker Price Funeral Home on Thursday, December 3, from 12:00 p.m.-6:00 p.m.
A private family graveside service will take place at Pleasant Hill Cemetery.
