Betty S. Flake, 89, of Topeka, passed away on Thursday, March 26, 2020. She was born October 18, 1930 at Konawa, Oklahoma the daughter of Owen and “Loraine” Jones. Betty was raised in Oklahoma and graduated from Konowa High School. She attended Oklahoma State University. While at school in Stillwater, she met E.L. “Les” Flake, Jr. They were both members of the Oklahoma State Band. They married June 8, 1952 in Konowa. Betty was a dedicated wife and mother. She was a faithful member of Grace United Methodist Church for many years where she was a choir member. She was a Campfire Girls Leader, which provided leadership for Lori’s group many years, a wonderful seamstress, bridge player with the Women’s Club and belonged to Lady Luck, a private investment club, as well as a member of Santa Fe Singers, a member of American Association of University Women, which included youth studies, money management and potpourri. She was also a member of Topeka Home Economics in Homemaking. Betty and Les were members of the Topeka Ski Club at Lake Shawnee, which provided many wonderful family memories.
Betty is survived by her daughter, Laura Flake of Topeka; son, Lance Flake and wife Jennifer of Longmont, Colorado; and granddaughter, Lucy of Longmont.
She is preceded in death by her husband Les Flake in 2011; her siblings, Theron Jones, Nadine Novick and Maxine Thomas; and her parents.
