Betty L. Orender, 90, of Topeka passed away on August 20, 2024 at her home in Topeka. She grew up in East Topeka and graduated from Topeka High School. Early in her adult life she lived at Lake Wabaunsee and Dover, working at Flint Hills Care Center in Eskridge as an a certified nurse’s aide working her way up to a registered nurse. She and her family enjoyed rodeoing and Betty was a contestant at many area rodeos. She loved horses. She later became a registered nurse and worked in Topeka at Topeka Convalescent Center, Highland Villa and Lexington Park. She was a charge nurse at Lexington Park. Betty worked well into her 70’s. Betty was well liked by all her neighbors at the La Colonia Apartments.
She was married twice in her lifetime. To George Brown and later Keith Orender, both who preceded her in death.
She is survived by Elmer Brown of Topeka, Connie Griffiths of Topeka, Georgette Perry of Topeka and Abigail Brown who lives in the state of Nevada; two sibilings, JoAnn Herbling in Topeka and Jim Klesath of Salem, Oregon; 18 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
Betty was preceded in death by son, Lee Brown and a daughter, Kathleen Rusher.
