Elizabeth C. "Betty" Nestler
The Lord Jesus granted Betty her eternal reward in glory on June 28, 2008, after a brief trial with brain cancer.
She was born Elizabeth Caroline Ricker on May 7, 1938, near Alden, KS, to John and Anna (Miller) Ricker. Betty graduated from Alden High School and attended Concordia Teachers College, Seward, NE, where she met Robert Nestler. They were married June 7, 1959, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Ellinwood, KS.
Betty was a Lutheran elementary school teacher in Deshler, NE, and Ellisville, MO. She was actively involved in Lutheran congregations as she supported her husband in his teaching and pastoral ministry. She later served as congregational secretary at Calvary Lutheran Church in Topeka.
She is survived by her husband, Reverend Robert Nestler of the home. They were blessed with five children. Survivors include three daughters and son-in-laws, Debbie and David King of Holton, Becky and Bob Tackett of Wamego, and Susan and Ken Roberts of Wamego; a daughter-in-law, Tanya Nestler of Topeka; three brothers; two sisters; and twelve grandchildren, Dustin, Joshua, Ryan, Nicholas, Aaron, Brandon, Paul, Casey, Courtney, Caleb, Spencer, and Mallory. She was preceded in death by two sons, infant son, Steven Robert Nestler, on April 4, 1960, and Robert Vance Nestler, age 35, on October 4, 2006.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 2, 2008, at Calvary Lutheran Church, 4211 N.W. Topeka Ave. Mrs. Nestler will lie in state after 3:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, 245 NW Independence, where the family will receive friends from 6:30-8:00 p.m. Interment will be at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Topeka. Memorial contributions may be made to the Betty Nestler Memorial Fund to be designated later by the family and sent to the funeral home.
