Betty J. Myrick, 76, Topeka, lost her brave battle with cancer on July 23, 2007 at home, surrounded by her family.
She was born Betty J. Smith on March 22, 1931, the daughter of Perry and Geneva Blanche (Blevins) Smith. Betty worked as a professional bookkeeper for over 40 years. She worked for Forbes Depot, Hallmark, and Topeka Auto, before retiring from Flemings in 1985.
Betty was married to Wayne V. Myrick for over 50 years. Together they owned Capitol Auto Supply and Machine Shop. He preceded her in death in 2002. Survivors include their children; Christine McCall and husband, Buddy, and Dean Myrick and wife, Susan, all of Topeka; five grandchildren and their spouses; four great grandchildren; a brother, Walter Taylor; sister-in-law, Norma Taylor, both of Colorado Springs, CO and their two children.
Betty was a prize winning gardner. She loved the water, and enjoyed swimming and water sports. She was also an avid traveler. Most of all, Betty enjoyed spending time with her family and loved ones.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 27, 2007 at Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, 245 NW Independence. Burial will follow in Mount Hope Cemetery. Betty will lie in state at the funeral home after 2:00 p.m. on Thursday and visitation will be from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m.
