Betty Lou McDermed, 90, of Topeka, passed away Sunday, December 30, 2012.
She was born September 24, 1922 in Rogers, AR, the daughter of Asberry and Georgia (Boyd) McDaniel.
Betty was employed as a caregiver for mentally handicapped children for the State Oklahoma for 10 years.
She married William C. McDermed. He preceded her in death on December 14, 1972.
Survivors include a daughter, Georgia Lee Iocco and her husband, Mark Blankenship, Houston, TX; a son, Paul McDermed and his wife, Diane of Topeka; four grandchildren, Michelle Beavers, Ali McDermed, Todd Iocco and Shawn Iocco; five great-grandchildren and a sister, Dorothy Bynum, Tulsa, OK. She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Charles McDaniel.
A funeral ceremony will be 1 p.m., Saturday, January 5, 2013 at the Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, 245 NW Independence Ave, Topeka, KS 66608. Betty will lie in state after 3 p.m., Friday at the funeral home where the family will receive friends from 6:30-8 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Marian Clinic, 1001 SW Garfield Ave, Topeka, KS 66604.
