Betty Lou Kinnett
Betty Lou Kinnett, 87, Topeka, died Wednesday, November 4, 2015, at Midland Hospice House. She was born April 13, 1928, in Topeka, the daughter of Kenneth McClelland and Myrtle Mae (Golladay) Spence.
As a young girl, she helped her father grow vegetables to sell to stores – sweet potatoes, Irish potatoes, cabbage, beets, lettuce, green beans, tomatoes, and radishes. She also helped raise chickens for the family. Betty assisted her mother in sewing and canning.
She attended State Street School, Holliday Junior High, and Topeka High, graduating in 1946. In the summer of 1945 worked part-time. She worked at Security Benefit Life Insurance Company in File-Mail Department; Montgomery Ward Catalog Department; Fall 1945 manager twelve years at Grace Shop in receiving/shipping for three stores. She then stayed at home, but babysat for three families.
Betty married Clyde Vernon Kinnett on January 8, 1946. They were married 68 years. They had no children. They had ten nieces and nephews; many great-nieces and nephews; also many great-great-nieces and nephews; and cousins in McPherson, KS.
Graveside services will be at 1:00 PM, Monday, November 9, 2015, at Mount Hope Cemetery, 4700 SW 17th Street, Topeka.
Betty will lie in state from 11:30 AM to 12:30 PM, Monday, at the Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, 245 NW Independence Avenue.
