Betty Jane Artzer, 90, of Topeka, passed away Friday, July 25, 2014.
She was born May 28, 1924 in Topeka, the daughter of James E. and Katie (Busbee) Collier. She was a graduate of Topeka High School.
Mrs. Artzer was employed the Topeka Supply Depot and retired from the Shawnee County Appraiser's Office.
She attended St. Joseph Catholic Church. She volunteered at Papan's Landing Senior Center for 30 years, served on Papan's Landing Board of Directors and NIA Northwest Board of Directors. She served on the Shawnee County Election Board and was a member of NARVE and Santa Fe Old Timers. She called Bingo at the Burger King on California Street for many years.
Betty married Wilbert Albert Artzer on July 4, 1943 at Ft. Campbell, KY. He preceded her in death on February 2, 2013. Survivors include a daughter, Frances "Kay" (husband Ed) Grey, of Topeka; grandchildren, Brenda (husband Greg) Edmonds, of Overland Park, KS and Lisa Grey of Lawrence, KS; great-grandchildren, Bailey and Lindsay Edmonds; and a special neighbor and friend, Nancy Pasley.
Betty loved volunteering, spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, camping, boating, playing cards and Bingo.
A funeral ceremony will be 1 p.m., Tuesday, July 29, 2014 at the Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, 245 NW Independence Ave, Topeka, KS 66608. Interment will follow at the Meriden Cemetery, Meriden, KS. Betty will lie in state after 3 p.m., Monday at the funeral home where the family will receive friends from 6:30 -8:00 p.m.
