Betty Barngrover

July 19, 1933 — January 24, 2025

Grantville

Betty Barngrover, a beloved wife, devoted mother, and cherished grandmother, left this world peacefully on January 24, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. Born on July 19, 1933, in Emporia, Kansas, Betty led a life filled with warmth, laughter, and an unwavering commitment to those she loved.

As a stay-at-home mom, Betty dedicated herself wholeheartedly to raising her children—Sherry (Gary) Meggison, Clyde (Hazel) Barngrover Jr., Sharon K. Spreer, and Clayton Barngrover Sr. Her heart of gold and nurturing spirit created a loving home that welcomed adventure and joy. Betty's enthusiasm for life was evident in her many hobbies; canning vegetables, taking trips to Branson with her Aunt Margaret and camping. On camping trips, she was the “go-to” person if there was anything forgotten. She was not shy to express her love for her family, often cheering for her grandchildren as they participated in their activities and playing joyfully with them.

Betty's musical spirit shone through her love of singing, and she found delight in simple pleasures, such as having her hair brushed. Her zest for life remained vibrant even as she took time to support causes close to her heart, like the "On The Trail To A Cure" cancer benefit in Manhattan. In her younger years, she relished skating and riding her bike, memories that would live on in the stories she shared.

After dedicating years to her family, Betty later worked for Josten's American Yearbook until her retirement in 1994. Her joy in life was contagious, and she always put everyone before herself, embodying the true essence of selflessness.

Betty is lovingly remembered by her husband, Clyde Barngrover Sr., with whom she shared a marriage filled with love and companionship since March 29, 1952. She is survived by her children and their spouses, her grandchildren—Jason Meggison, Stacey (Jamie) Mirch, Chelsea Meggison, Misty (Dan) Ballinger, Christy Reed, Eric (Jennifer) Spreer, Laycee Spreer, Clayton Barngrover Jr., Dusty (Chrissy) Gruber, and Jaydyn Gardner—as well as her 17 great-grandchildren and 13 great-great-grandchildren, who were all treasured by her.

In addition to her immediate family, Betty is also survived by her brothers: Harold Grimmett, Don (Bernice) Grimmett, and Cecil (Brenda) Grimmett, and her sister Joyce (Ed) Beals.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Raymond Grimmett and Ava (Buck) Grimmett, an infant sister, Judy Grimmett, an infant grandchild, Justin Spreer, and her brother Raymond "Bob" Grimmett.

Family and friends will gather to honor her memory during visitation on January 30, 2025, at Parker-Price & Davidson in Topeka from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, followed by a funeral service on January 31, 2025, at 2:00 PM, also at Parker-Price & Davidson. Betty will find her final resting place at Grantville Cemetery, with burial taking place at 3:00 PM on the same day.

Betty Barngrover will be forever missed and lovingly remembered for the light she brought to every life she touched. Her legacy of kindness and compassion will continue to inspire those who knew and loved her.
