Bertha "Louise" Elrod

September 4, 1929 — July 12, 2019

Bertha "Louise" Sherred Elrod was born on Sep 4, 1929. She lived a long, vivacious life full of love for Jehovah, family, and friends. She was the daughter of Walter Sherred, Sr. and Bertha Johnson Sherred. She grew up in Williamston, SC. She married Alvin Elrod, Sr. and they had 12 children whom she loved wholeheartedly: William, Mattie, Sandra, Elaine, Alvin Jr., Kenneth, Carol, Michael, Joseph, Robert, Jonathan, and Raymond Eric. Louise also helped to raise Charles Cooper, someone whom she loved dearly as if he were her own.

After marrying Alvin Elrod, Sr., Louise moved to Lakeview Long Island, New York, where she resided for approximately 45 years. After Alvin's death, Louise relocated to Williamston, SC, where she resided for approximately 10 years. She then moved to Topeka, Kansas and remained there until her death. In the last 8 months of her life, Louise resided with her daughter, Elaine Cooper.

Louise has been a faithful servant of Jehovah for many years. When in good health, she attended the Topeka congregation.

Louise was a devoted and loving wife and mother. She was extremely generous, taking in anyone who needed food, shelter, or just a good conversation. She always had her coffee pot on and ready for anyone who came to see her, inspiring all with her advice and words of wisdom.

Louise's hobbies included gardening, cooking, sewing, reading (daily Bible reading, newspapers, and novels), and fishing. Her biggest hobby was just being with her family, whom she cherished to the end. She enjoyed large family gatherings (especially with her children and grandchildren) where she could connect and spend quality time with her loved ones.

Louise had a zest for life and never let anything slow her down. She was truly a vigorous life force with an amazing presence. Anyone who knew her, loved her. She was energetic, positive, loving, generous, non-judgmental, and forgiving. She meant everything to us and we will miss her on this Earth but we certainly look forward to seeing and reuniting with her again in the new system!

Louise is survived by her daughters, Mattie Elrod Wimbush, Sandra (Nathaniel) Carlisle, Elaine (Elliott) Cooper, Carol (Willie) Thompson; sons, Kenneth Elrod; Michael (Donta) Elrod; Joseph Elrod, Robert (Lucretia) Elrod, Jonathan Elrod, Raymond Eric (Tracy) Johnson; brothers, Walter Sherred, Jr., Henry Sherred; a host of grand-children, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins. Along with her parents, Walter Sr. and Bertha (Johnson) Sherred, Louise was preceded in death by her husband, Alvin Elrod, Sr.; siblings, Betty Sue Thurmond, Anna Lee Sherred, Georgia Carolyn Smith, Brenda Sherred, and Billy Joe Sherred; children, William Walter Elrod and Alvin Elrod, Jr.; and granddaughters, Sandria Elrod and Tiffany Elrod.

A memorial service will be held on Sunday, July 21, 2019 at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 2701 SE Croco Rd, Topeka, KS 66605.
