Bertha E. Sloyer
Bertha E. Sloyer, 83, Topeka, died Saturday, May 31, 2003, at a Topeka memory care nursing home. She was born Feb. 14, 1920, in Topeka, the daughter of W.F. and Edna Sheetz Spiker. She graduated from Topeka High School in 1938. Mrs. Sloyer was a homemaker. She was a member of St. Paul s Lutheran Church and was active in the Dorcus Society, Lutheran Women s Missionary League and the braille sight saving workshops at St. John s Lutheran Church. She married Melvin E. Sloyer on April 9, 1939. He died Nov. 30, 1975. Survivors include two sons, Lt. Col. (retired) Wayne Sloyer, Olathe, and Donald Sloyer, Topeka; and two grandsons, Matthew and Jeffrey Sloyer, Lawrence; and numerous nephews and nieces. Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Parker-Price Mortuary. Mrs. Sloyer will lie in state after 2 p.m. Monday at the mortuary. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to service time Tuesday.
