Bernard L. "Lyle" Bliss, 82, of Topeka, died Wednesday, June 29 , 2005 at Midland Hospice.
He was born June 11, 1923 in Oskaloosa, the son of Stanley Van and Jenny Wills Bliss.
He graduated from Oskaloosa High School. He served in the Army during World War II in the Pacific Theatre. He worked for Goodyear for thiry three years and was a supervisor for the last ten years before retiring in 1979. He then worked for the Kansas Legislature for twenty years, retiring just this past year. He was a member of Golden Rule Lodge # 90 A.F. & A.M., the Topeka Scottish Rite Bodies, the Arab Shrine and Shrine Provost Guard. He was an avid fisherman, handyman and friend who loved to laugh and tease. His presence will be missed by many.
He married Glennie Bowen. They had one daughter . They later divorced. He married Lolarene Main Monroe on February 12, 1967. She survives of the home.
Other survivors include his daughter, Cathie Lee Scritchfield, New Mexico; a step-daughter and her husband, Sharon and David Chesmore, of Derby; a step-son and his wife, Michael and Lorraine Monroe of Topeka; two brothers, Van Bliss and his wife Betty of Littleton, CO and John Bliss and his wife Maxine of Leavenworth, eight grandchildren, a great grandson and numerous nieces and nephews.
Cremation is planned. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 pm, Saturday, July 2 at Penwell-Gabel Parker Price Chapel. Private inurnment will be at a later date.
