OBITUARY: Barbara Wentworth
Barbara Wentworth, age 76, passed away October 31, 2006, at Midland Hospice in Topeka.
She was born December 31, 1929, in Wamego, Kansas the daughter of Joel Lewis and Juanita Fern (Shelton) Hoover. She lived in the community of St. George while attending school there before moving with her family to Topeka in 1944. She graduated from Highland Park High School in 1947. She started her career with Southwestern Bell at that time in Topeka, and retired in 1982. Barbara married Edward R. Wentworth in Topeka on March 10, 1950.
Barbara was a lifelong member of Telephone Pioneers of America, a member of Epsilon Sigma Alpha Sorority, and a member of ERC. She was an Elder for St. Andrews Presbyterian Church in Topeka as well as serving on several committees. Her other volunteer work included counseling breast cancer patients.
She is survived by her husband Edward Wentworth of Topeka; a sister JoAnn H.Walker of Palm Springs, California, 2 nephews and numerous aunts and cousins. A brother, Justin Allan "Bud" Hoover, preceded her in death.
Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, November 6, 2006, at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church, 1821 S.W. 37th, Topeka. Private inurnment will be at Penwell-Gabel Cemetery at a later date.
