Barbara L. Sowards

Barbara L. Sowards, age 77, of Topeka passed away Tuesday, November 6, 2018 at Kelly House in Meriden. Barbara was born March 26, 1941 in Topeka the daughter of Allison and Juanita Turman Broadbent. She graduated from Seaman High School in 1959. Barbara married Morris Sowards May 29, 1958 in Newkirk, Oklahoma. He preceded her in death August 17, 2018. Barbara worked for Seaman Food Service for over 25 years. She was preceded in death by a brother, Bill Broadbent, a sister, Ruth Broadbent and a great grandson, Landen Wall.   Barbara is survived by three sons, Kevin (Kim) Sowards of Topeka, Kurt Sowards of Augusta, KS and Keith (Linda) Sowards of Topeka; two daughters, Karla (Chris) Savoie and Kim (Fred) Patton, both of Topeka; two brothers, Duane (Jean) Broadbent of Ballantine, Montana and Larry (Paulette) Broadbent of Topeka; two sisters, Helen Fiebig of Topeka and Shirley Miller of Auburn, KS;  13 grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Barbara was an active member of the Latter Day Saints Church in Topeka. She enjoyed gardening, traveling and spending time with her family.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, November 14, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. at the Davidson Funeral Home. She will lie in state Tuesday from noon – 8:00 p.m. with the visitation from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at the Davidson Funeral Home. Interment will be at the Rochester Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Great Lakes Hospice or Johnson Cancer Research at Kansas State University and left in care of the Davidson Funeral Home. davidsonfuneral.com.
