Barbara Louise Snook left this world on June 8 th , 2022, at the age of 83, surrounded by family. She will be remembered as a devoted wife, a great sister, a loving mom and grandma, and a caring friend. We will miss hearing her stories and her quick, witty comments.
Barbara was born to Albert and Catherine Hammer on October 30, 1938 in Oklahoma City, OK.
Barbara spent most of her youth in Emporia, KS where she attended Roosevelt, a private school, and enjoyed many school activities. Barbara was a baton twirler, cheerleader and member of the orchestra, band and choir. In 1956, her family moved to Topeka, where she finished her last two years of schooling at Highland Park High. It is here that she met the love of her life, Phillip LeRoy Snook, at a Friday night football game. After high school, Barbara attended The Clark School of Business.
Barbara and Phillip eloped on September 27, 1957 in Hernando, MS and shared almost 65 years of companionship and love. They had four children: Terry, Phillip, Sherry and Kerry. Being a mother was one of the most important parts of Barbara’s life. A role that gave her much pride and joy. She was a wonderful and loving mother – very attentive, kind, and caring person who always put the needs of her family before her own. She was also a strong woman who faced every challenge in her life with grace. She always looked for the positive in any situation and rarely let a negative word escape her lips.
Once her youngest was in middle school, Barbara worked in the medical field for 21 years before retiring. After retirement, Barbara enjoyed spoiling her grandchildren and great grandchildren, playing piano, reading, gardening, and helping host many family gatherings and reunions. Barbara also enjoyed square dancing, 2 step, and line dancing with her husband.
Barbara joins her parents, her son Phillip, and her daughter Sherry, in heaven. She is survived by her husband, Phillip, her daughters, Terry (Bob) and Kerry, her sister Carole, five grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
