Barbara Kay Rakestraw

Barbara Kay Rakestraw, 67, Silver Lake, died Wednesday, July 22, 2015, at her home. She was born September 11, 1947, at Wamego, the daughter of John Llewellyn and Philomena Louise (Tauer) Peavler.

Barbara graduated from Silver Lake High School and Clark's School of Business. She worked for Southwestern Bell for 31 years, retiring May 7, 1999. She played golf at the St. Marys Golf Course; and enjoyed softball and fishing. She was an avid KU fan.

She married Kenneth Rakestraw on April 22, 1968, at Holton. He survives.

Surviving are her husband: Kenneth Rakestraw of the home; a daughter: Stacy Lynn Graves (Corey) of Hoffman Estates, IL; four grandchildren: Kylie Lynn Graves, Braden Reed Graves, Emily Virginia Graves, and Derrick William Graves all of Hoffman Estates, IL; her mother: Philomena Peavler of Kiro Corner; sisters: Cheryl Workman (Frank) of Silver Lake, Carol Abbott (Herb) of Topeka; and Cathy Miller (Brad) of Topeka; and several nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be at 10:00 AM, Monday, July 27, 2015, at Silver Lake Cemetery.

Barbara will lie in state after 3:00 PM, Sunday, at Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, 245 NW Independence Avenue, where the family will receive friends from 6:00 to 7:30 PM.

Memorial contributions may be made to Midland Hospice, 200 SW Frazier Avenue, Topeka, KS 66606-2800.
