Barbara Jean (Stovall) Jessop, 77, of Topeka, passed away Saturday, March 23, 2024.
She was born September 25, 1946, in Ottawa, Kansas, the daughter of Orville and Eleanor (Johnson) Stovall. From age 5, she was raised by Benny Jewell and her mother.
She graduated from Highland Park High School in 1964.
Barbara worked various jobs throughout her lifetime. She started with Southwestern Bell. She later worked for Carl Ossman Architect while she stayed at home with her children. She finished out her working career at Asay's Sportsman Store. She worked there for 17 years until she retired to take care of her grand babies.
She was a faithful member of Oakland Presbyterian Church. There she served as a Deacon and church secretary for 17 years.
When it came to gardening, Barbara had a green thumb. She enjoyed spending time out in her flower bed, avoiding the snakes of course. When she reached the point of not being able to tend to her flowers, she did a great job of sitting on the back deck getting help from her husband Kenny. There were countless hours spent in her backyard watching birds and the squirrels run around.
Barbara was an absolute joy to be around. She brought a smile to everyone's face that she met. She was the matriarch of her family. Planning any and all events, especially events that got her family together while watching sports (Chiefs and KU) Together she and Kenny were very involved in their kid's and grandkids' lives. Attending any and all events.
Her love overflowed outside of her family and faith and into her friends. She cherished coffee with her ladies and playing bunko.
Barbara Stovall married the love her life and best friend, Kenneth G. "Kenny" Jessop on September 3, 1966 at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Topeka, KS.
Survivors include her loving husband, Kenny; children, Scott (Beth) Jessop, Kenny Jessop, and Danielle (Michael) Sullivan; grandchildren, Mitchell Sullivan, Jaxon Sullivan, Avry Jessop, and Beau Jessop; sisters, Ellen Irwin and Kathy Anderson.
She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Ronnie Stovall.
The family will greet friends during a visitation from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Friday, April 19, 2024 at Parker-Price & Davidson, 245 NW Independence Ave., Topeka, KS.
A Celebration of Life will be at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, April 20, 2024 at the funeral home.
