Barbara Jean Collins, 89, of Topeka, passed away on March 22, 2022 at Stormont Vail Hospital.

Barbara was born on October 18, 1932 to Phillip and Elizabeth (Copeland) Gunkle in Emporia, KS.
She graduated from Emporia High School in 1950.

She worked as a Mail Sorter for The United States Postal Service up until her retirement.

She married David Baker. He preceded her in death in 1969. Later she married Gene Collins. They later divorced.

Barbara loved to watch football and NASCAR. She also loved to read and watch movies. In her younger years she enjoyed walking trails with her daughter.

Barbara is survived by her daughter, Tamara (Bill) Burress; nieces, Susan Thompson and Pat Douglas; and grandchildren, Tori Burress, Emma Burress, Duane Burress, and Joey Burress.

She was preceded in death by both of her parents; sister, Phyllis Gunkle-Helstrom; and nephew, Kenny Helstrom.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, March 29, 2022, 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Parker-Price Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, March 30, 2022, 10:00 am at Parker Price Funeral Home.

Graveside Service will follow at Maplewood-Memorial Lawn, in Emporia, Kansas.

Memorial contributions can be made to The Valley Falls Vindicator for machinery upgrades and printing purposes.
