Arthur R. Knight, 80, Topeka, died Friday, October 21, 2005 at Plaza West Regional Health Center. He was born June 17, 1925 in Oswego, KS, the son of Victor and Mary Davis Knight.
He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II where he was a part of the invasion of France. Arthur owned and operated Knight's National Painting Company for 42 years retiring December 31, 1995. He traveled around the world for the last ten years. Arthur had his own band Art and the Valley Boys.
He was a member of the Kansas Old Time Pickers, Fiddlers and Singers. He won several trophies for his expertise in singing. He and his wife Virginia were members of the First Baptist Church of Rio Hondo in Texas where he took part in the 58 member choir. Arthur was also a member of the Golden Rule Lodge #90 A.F. & A.M., Arab Shrine Temple of Topeka in the Transportation Unit.
He married Juanita Ann Maynard, January 26, 1958 in Aledo, Ill. She died May 12, 2000. He later married Virginia O. Barrett, August 24, 2002 in Las Vegas, NV. She survives.
Other survivors include two sons, Victor Knight, and Mark Knight both of Topeka; a brother, Harold Knight, Vinita, OK; 12 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be at 3:00 p.m., Tuesday, October 25, 2005 at Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel in North Topeka. Private inurnment will be in Penwell-Gabel's Memorial Park Cemetery.
