Arthur "Art" D. Schimmel

Arthur “Art” Dean Schimmel, 79, of Topeka, passed away Wednesday, July 3, 2019 in Topeka. Art was born August 25, 1939 in Lawrence, KS the son of Ralph and Doris (McMinn) Schimmel. Art graduated from Silver Lake High School. He enlisted and served in the U.S. Army. He later worked at the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Plant in Topeka. He also served as a volunteer for the Soldier Township Fire Department. He married Shirley Mae Brandenburg August 29, 1959 in Topeka. She preceded him in death September 12, 2010. Art was a member of the Topeka Masonic Lodge #17 AF & AM.  He volunteered at the Soldier Township Fire Department for many years. Art enjoyed traveling, especially with Great Adventure Tours. Art was always involved with various youth activities.  He taught Hunters Safety Courses, and he was a founding member of the Fine Arts Booster Club at Seaman High School. He is survived by two sons, Dino (Kathy) Schimmel of Belton, MO and Roger D. Schimmel of Edgerton, KS; a daughter, Marsha K. Morgan of Topeka; a companion, Shirley Grist of Topeka; nine grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Thursday, July 11, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. at the Davidson Funeral Home. He will lie in state Wednesday from noon – 8:00 p.m. with visitation from 6:00 – 7:30 p.m. also at the funeral home. Interment will be at the Prairie Home Cemetery.
