OBITUARY: Arnold "Ray" Jeane
Arnold "Ray" Jeane, 84, Topeka, Kansas, died Tuesday, March 8, 2011, at Midland Hospice House, Topeka. Ray was born January 17, 1927, at Leesville, Louisiana, the son of Charlie W. and Ola (Fontenot) Jeane. He had served in the U.S. Army during World War II. Ray had been a conductor and brakeman for the Kansas City Southern Railroad. He had worked in the maintenance department at St. Francis Hospital and had retired from the maintenance department at Washburn University.
Ray served as Master of Golden Rule Lodge # 90, AF & AM, in 1978. He was a member of Headquarters Post # 58, of the American Legion. He was an accomplished musician and enjoyed playing the mandolin, especially Country & Western. He loved to hunt and fish.
He was married to Cella Mae Fletcher. To this union was born five daughters and one son. They later divorced. He was married to Janice Reed Lattimer on November 28, 1970, in Topeka. He was preceded in death by his son, Arnold Ricky, in infancy; his parents; and siblings: John Aubrey Jeane, Charlotte Smith, Nadine Wheeler, Maxie Jeane, Garner Dean Jeane, and Jimmy Jeane.
Surviving are his wife: Janice Jeane of the home, Topeka; five daughters: Linda G. Howell, Glenda R. Lyles, Zelda Dearman, Brenda Hilburn, and Delta Rains, all of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; four siblings: C.W. "Bill" Jeane, Glorieta Lester, and Nelva Sauls, all of Louisiana, and Gary Jeane of Nevada; 15 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; a great-great-granddaughter; and numerous Jeane and Reed nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 AM, Friday, March 11, 2011, at Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, 245 NW Independence Avenue, Topeka. Masonic services will be conducted by Golden Rule Lodge # 90, AF & AM. Interment in Penwell-Gabel Cemetery, 3616 SW Sixth Street, Topeka. Ray will lie in state after 3:00 PM., Thursday, at the funeral chapel where the family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:00 PM
