Aretta M. Manis, 94, Topeka, died Wed., Oct. 24, 2012, at Plaza West.
She was born Oct. 7, 1918, in Lincoln County, OK, the daughter of William R. and Maudie B. (Hollenbeck) Swatzell.
Aretta was married to Leo A. Manis on June 29, 1935, at Pryor, OK. He preceded her in death on March 21, 1993. She was also preceded in death by a daughter: Waneta King; 2 grandsons: Mickey Lee King and John W. Pence; and siblings: George Swatzell, Mable Simpson, Cecil Swatzell, Betty Hendrickson, and Basil Swatzell.
Surviving are her children: Pearlene Rew of Craig, MO, Barbara Pence of Tecumseh, Zelda Gibbs-Fiest of Topeka, Kay Arganbright of Wood River, IL, and Dan Manis of Ozark, MO; brother: Kenneth Swatzell of Oolagah, OK; 23 grandchildren; 46 great-grandchildren; and 48 great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 1:00 PM, Mon., Oct. 29, 2012, at Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, 245 NW Independence Ave., Topeka. Interment in Topeka Cemetery. Aretta will lie in state after 2:00 PM, Sun., at the funeral chapel where the family will receive friends from 2:00 to 3:30 PM.
Memorial contributions may be made to Plaza West, 1570 SW Westport Dr., Topeka, KS 66604.
