OBITUARY: Mrs. Areila O. Oakman



Mrs. Areila Olene Oakman, 89, Topeka, died Wed., Feb. 6, 2008, at St. Francis Hospital. She was born March 25, 1918, at England, AR, the daughter of Chester Burton and Cora Bell (Frizzell) West. She had lived in Topeka since 1945.

She retired from K.N.I. Areila was a member of First Southern Baptist Church.

She was married to Clio Wayne Oakman, Sr. on March 20, 1942, at Salinas, CA. He preceded her in death on June 17, 1984. She was preceded in death by 2 daughters: Shirla Hubbard Wasson on Dec. 19, 1978, and Sherry L. Hilderbrand on Jan. 28, 2008.

Surviving are 3 sons: C. Wayne Oakman, Jr. (Kay) of Abilene, KS, Larry D. Oakman (Gayle) of Grand Island, NE, and Donnie G. Oakman (Christine) of Topeka; 13 grandchildren; and 37 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 1:00 PM, Mon., Feb. 11, 2008, at Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, 245 NW Independence, Topeka. Interment in Powhattan Cemetery. Areila will lie in state after 1:00 PM, Sun., at the funeral chapel where the family will receive friends from 7:00 to 8:00 PM.
