Anna Thelma Hood
Anna Thelma Hood, 91, retired jewelry clerk for Hess Jewelers and Schmidt Jewelers in North Topeka, died Thursday, Sept. 2, 2004, at her home in New Orleans. She was born Dec. 28, 1912, in Auburn. Ms. Hood was a lifelong resident of Topeka and a member of Capitola Rebekah Lodge No. 219 of the International Order of the Odd Fellows. She was devoted to her grandchildren and following the death of her husband, Marcus W. Hood Sr., a Topeka fireman in 1987, she resided with grandchildren in the Atlanta area and in New Orleans for the past year. She was preceded in death by her parents, the late Charles and Maria Moore Bean; as well as her two children, Marcus W. Hood Jr., a Topeka police officer, and her daughter, Patricia Gayle Del Hierro. She is survived by six grandchildren, Robin Hood, Topeka, Kimberly Quiett, Buford, Ga., Kyle Del Hierro, New Orleans, Kalynn Morris, McDonough, Ga., Nathan Hood, Kirkland, Wash., and Kassandra Del Hierro, Atlanta; along with fou r great-grandsons; three great-granddaughters; and two great-great grandsons. A funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Morningside Bible Church, formerly Church of the Open Door, at 2025 S.W. Burnett Road in Topeka. Ms. Hood will lie in state after 3 p.m. Monday at Parker-Price Chapel in North Topeka, where the family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery.
