The Reverend Ann W. (Annie) Ragland Hedquist passed away peacefully April 12, 2021 in her home surrounded by her devoted and loving family. She was the daughter of Georganna and John Ragland of Kansas City where she grew up. Topeka was where she spent her adult life and raised her family.
She was predeceased by her husband Glenn L. Hedquist of 45 years. She is survived by her son Chris (Karla) Hedquist of Topeka, her daughter Laurie (John) Terry of Texas, her grandchildren, Howard-Augie, Ike (Daryane) Hedquist, Paige, Jake (Emily), Meg and Emily Terry. She leaves her brothers Mike and Kim (Karen) Ragland of Overland Park, Kansas and sister Julana Rader of Connecticut and many nieces and nephews, as well as her dear family friend, Mary Ann Jennings.
Ann went to Westwood View School, Shawnee Mission High School, MacMurray College, Kansas University, and obtained a degree in Psychology from Washburn University.
Annie was active in her community, volunteering at the schools. She was a docent and president at FOTZ. She was a member of PEO chapter GJ and also enjoyed her time with her Sisters in Spirit. She was an Episcopal deacon at St. Philips and St. David’s for 26 years. She was Chaplain at Heart of America (Grace Hospice) for 16 years. She has been a chaplain at Homestead Health Care and Lexington Park Assisted Living until her retirement in 2021.
Annie wants to give a warm thank you to her Ascend Hospice team Mandy, Don, Suzanne and Jake with a special thanks to Jay Melkus for his care and their long friendship. She also wants to give thanks to her friends and neighbors and church family and especially to her immediate family for their love and care during her last journey.
