Ann Melinda Hawks, 70, of Topeka Kansas passed into the arms of Yeshua (Jesus) on November 30, 2022. She was born January 3, 1952, to her parents, Marian Joan Hawks (Derby) and Floris Warren Hawks in Topeka.
Ann’s education included high school graduation from Shawnee Heights High School in 1970, undergraduate college degrees in anthropology and human development from the University of Kansas in 1975, and a graduate degree in special education from the University of New Mexico in 1979.
Ann worked as an advocate for young children in many different capacities though her 40 years of teaching. She authored a series of teaching modules at the University of Illinois, contributed to grant writing, authored articles while in New Mexico pertaining to the early integration of non-handicapped and handicapped children. What she loved most was working with the children themselves and she did this work in Minnesota, New Mexico and her beloved state of Kansas.
Ann became a committed Christian and follower of her Messiah, Jesus Christ, in the 1990’s and thrived on reading and discussing the bible with others within small groups, praying for the needs of others, and participating in corporate worship.
Ann never married, but dearly loved her family and friends. One brother, John Warren Hawks, survives and three nephews, Benjamin Warren, Adam Benjamin, and Samuel Isaac. She was preceded in death by her parents, Warren and Joan Hawks, and her grandparents, Roy and Margaret Derby and Howard and Cleva Hawks.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday, December 3 rd at 10:00 am at the Topeka Cemetery Garden Chapel. Memorial contributions are suggested to Joni and Friends, the International Fellowship of Christians and Jews, or Preborn! Save Babies and Souls.
