Anita Smith
Anita Smith, 89, Topeka, died Tuesday, December 10, 2013, at Midland Hospice House. She was born January 17, 1924, in Topeka, the daughter of Paul A. and Alta LaVerne (Worthington) Bleske.
Anita graduated from Topeka High School. She had lived in Lecompton for 45 years, before returning to Topeka in 1998. Anita retired from the State of Kansas in 1989. She was a member of the Oakland Christian Church, Auxiliary to Philip Billard Post # 1650, V.F.W., Auxiliary to Topeka North Post # 400 of the American Legion, Ladies of the Moose, Rebekah Lodge # 616, Helena Chapter # 210, O.E.S. and Arab Shrine Ladies.
Anita was married to George E. Smith on April 1, 1944, in Topeka. He preceded her in death on February 14, 2001. A step-son, Gail Smith, preceded her in death in 1949. She was also preceded in death by her parents; sisters: Mildred Kenney and Maxine Barraclough; and a brother: Dale Bleske.
Surviving are a son: Marvin D. Smith (Mary) of Topeka; a daughter: Susan Manis (Kenny) of Topeka; a brother: Donald Bleske (Joan) of Overland Park; four grandchildren: Michael D. Smith (Angie) of Topeka, Michelle Caudill of Topeka, Brandon L. Manis (Sarah) of Topeka, and Dustin D. Manis (Heather) of Topeka; and seven great-grandchildren: Ella and Hannah Caudill, Lindsey and Dalton Smith, and Cody and Molly Manis, and Brielle Manis.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 AM, Saturday, December 14, 2013, at Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, 245 NW Independence Avenue. Interment in Topeka Cemetery.
Anita will lie in state after 3:00 PM, Friday at the funeral chapel where the family will receive friends from 6:00 to 7:30 PM.
