Anita Ellen (Smith) Freeman, 70, of Tecumseh, passed away Thursday, February 8, 2024.
She was born July 15, 1953, in Topeka, Kansas, the daughter of Eugene and Mary (Ausherman) Smith. She graduated from Highland Park High School in 1971.
Anita had a creative mind. Crafting came very natural to her. She enjoyed putting together all sorts of crafts throughout her life. She even had the help of her husband, Steve on some of the latch hook crafts. Her and her sister enjoyed antiquing. She also liked to go to auctions with her family.
She was a lover of all animals. She was a rescuer of animals, from cats to dogs to donkeys. Her love for helping and rescuing animals was passed down to her oldest daughter, Jandi.
She enjoyed being outside in her garden and camping. She also enjoyed watching KU Basketball and the Chiefs. Her love for being outside continued with her grandkids. Over the last few years she took them out fishing on her new pontoon boat when she could.
Family meant the world to Anita. She cherished her kids, grandkids and great-grandkids. She enjoyed spending time with them and attending their sporting events.
Anita married Stephen Freeman on August 18, 1973 in Topeka, Kansas at Grace United Methodist Church. He survives. Other survivors include her children, Jandi Masters, Craig Freeman, and Wendi Benefield; siblings, Mike Smith and Jeanette Wilson; grandchildren, Jake Masters, Rene Masters, Dusty Ralston-Masters, Graci Masters, Cooper Toland, Carson Freeman, Carter Freeman, Jackson Freeman, and Chase Toland and great-grandchildren, Braelin Ogden and Remi Masters. She was preceded in death by her parents Gene Smith and Mary Yoder.
The family will greet friends from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 14, 2024 at Parker-Price & Davidson Funeral Home, 245 NW Independence Ave., Topeka, KS 66608.
Funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, February 15, 2024 at Parker-Price & Davidson. Burial will follow at Pleasant Hill Cemetery.
