Anita L. Burney, 84, of Topeka passed away on Tuesday, September 8, 2020. Anita was born June 23, 1936 in Gladewater, Texas the daughter of Virgil and Myrtle L. Fitzgerald Mattocks. Anita lived at Ripley, Oklahoma and Scott City, Kansas before moving to Topeka, where she lived most of her adult life. She worked for Luce Press Clippings and McCormick Nut Factory before going to work for Jostens. She retired from Jostens Printing and Publishing Company after working there for over 30 years. She enjoyed writing poetry, reading, crocheting, watching westerns, playing cards and games. Anita had a favorite little dog named Vicky.
She was married to Oliver Clifford “Cliff” Thatcher in 1950. They divorced in 1964. She was later married to James Burney.
Survivors include her daughter, Robin Merrifield and her husband Delbert of Topeka; her son, David Thatcher and wife Mary of Garden City, Kansas; grandchildren, Skyler, Shylowe, Shane and Sarah; and her great grandchild, Isis. She was preceded in death by a grandson Michael.
She will be laid to rest at Rochester Cemetery. A celebration of her life will be held at Grace Farms, 2748 SE 29th, Topeka 66605, on Thursday, September, 10th, at 10:30 am, lunch will follow. To leave the family a message or to read her full obituary, please visit www.davidsonfuneral.com.
