Alpha LaVonne Canole, 82, of Topeka, passed away Friday, June 13, 2008 at the Midland Hospice House. Alpha was born October 28, 1925 in Oskaloosa, Missouri, the middle child of Albert Edward and Hazel Juanita Julian.
Alpha attended James and Fairmont Elementary Schools in Kansas City, MO, Northeast Jr. High School, graduated from Northeast High School in 1942, and took a few classes at Washburn University.
Alpha married James Clemont Canole, her kindergarten sweetheart, May 25, 1946 and moved to Topeka where she worked for the Morrell Meat Packing Company, the State of Kansas (Dept. of Admin), the K.U. Police Dept. and retired from the Kansas Geological Survey in 1987.
Alpha was preceded in death by her husband, Jim (Jan. 2006); sisters, Lucille Thomas, Alice Tittsworth, Irene Davis, Margaret Roberts, Hazel Marie Julian, and her brother, Edward Julian. Survivors include her daughter, Susan Kim (Canole) Crooks and her husband, Bill (Silver Lake, KS); two grandchildren, William Joseph Crooks III; Susan Michelle (Crooks) Zoeller and her husband, Trent; three great-grandchildren, Zachary, Ryker, and Brynna Zoeller; sisters, Nadine Negus (Blue Springs, MO) and JoAnn Vera (Carson City, NV).
Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, June 18, 2008 at the West Side Christian Church, where Alpha was a member. She will lie in state after 3 p.m., Tuesday at the Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel where the family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Interment will be at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Topeka.
